MUNICIPALITY OF DOMALJEVAC - ŠAMAC

History
Based on the provisions of the Dayton Peace Agreement the municipality of Domaljevac-Šamac was formed from the part of pre-war municipality of Bosanski Šamac. It has been established pursuant to the Federal Law on Constitution of the new municipalities in Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The municipality of Domaljevac-Šamac encompasses the area of 41,7 km2 of the central part of Posavin Canton, or mid Bosanska Posavina. It is located between 18°30' and 18° 37'30'' of geographic longitude and 45°00' and 45°07'30'' geographic latitude, and lies between 82,2 and 86,7 meters above the sea level (average altitude 85 m above the sea).

The municipality of Domaljevac-Šamac stretches over 10 km in the direction east-west along the Sava river, which also forms the border with Croatia in the length of 25 km. To the south-west it borders with municipality of Šamac and to the east with municipality of Orašje. Together with municipalities of Orašje and Odžak, the Domaljevac-Šamac municipality form Posavina Canton.

The main determinants of its geographic and communication position are the proximity of the Sava river and the section of the regional road R 464 Orašje - Bosanski Šamac. This road line is located between two parallel main BiH roads, one being the road that goes along the Bosna river valley and the other one being the road Orašje - Tuzla - Kladanj - Sarajevo. The modern border and custom crossing located in the municipality brings benefits in terms of improved traffic connections and development conditions.

Natural resources of Domaljevac-Šamac municipality include: arable land, forests, energy resources, water springs and cultural and historical heritage. In this sense, potentials of the municipality are:

- hydro potentials -Sava river and thermal water springs,
- arable/agricultural land,
- reservoirs of sand and gravel on Sava river for construction industry,
- tradition in wicker working and crafts and historical and cultural heritage.
