MUNICIPALITY SREBRENICA
History
The first historical records about Srebrenica date back from the period of Roman Administration. The Romans established miners dwelling called Domavium and soon after proclaimed it a Roman colony.
The monuments of cultural and historical heritage, ruins of medieval walls and remains of fortifications from medieval Bosnia, such as Donji and Gornji Srebrenik, Djurdjevac, Šubina together with 43 locations containing remains of 815 medieval necropolises -stećak, add up to the natural beauty of Srebrenica.
Geographical Settlement [Top]
The municipality of Srebrenica is situated in the northeastern part of BiH and RS, encompassing an area of 530m2 of mainly mountain terrain. It is located in the mid flow of the Drina river, that runs along the municipality borders in the length of 22 km. Srebrenica also borders with Perućko Lake in the length of 40 km. The urban settlement is situated in the valley of small Križevica river, at the 448 m above the sea level, bounded by the hills of Sušica mountain. The Srebrenica municipality borders with Bratunac, Milići, Vlasenica, Han Pjesak, Rogatica and Višegrad in Bosnia & Herzegovina and with municipality of Bajina Bašta in Srebia.
It is the hilly and mountain terrain. The main hydro-geographic characteristic of Srebrenica is the proximity of Drina river and Perućac lake as well as a number of small rivers and other water flows - Jadar, Križevica, Potočarska rjeka, Pusmulićka rjeka.
In respect to the traffic connections and links with the BiH inland, position of Srebrenica is rather unfavorable: Srebrenica is 160km from Sarajevo, 120 km from Tuzla and 210 km from Belgrade.

- Total length of local road network is 155 km, out of which 50 km of non-categorized roads and village roads, and around 60 km of regional, motor roads: Bratunac-Srebrenica-Skelani, Bratunac-Skelani and Zeleni Jadar -Milići.
- Telecommunications maintained by the public company PTT RS. Since the 1999 the company has divided into the telephone communication sector (Telekom) and post/mail distribution system. Telecommunication capacities are rather limited and new investments are necessary. In the process of return of the pre war citizens to their homes, investments are needed in order to connect villages of Skelani, Sase, Potočari, Sućeska, Osat, Jadar and other places.
- Supply and distribution of the electrical energy from the TE Tuzla, TE Ugljevik and HE Zvornik is carried out via long-distance transmission lines of 400, 220, 110 and 35 KV. The distribution network of 35 KV (and partially of 110 KV) covers all parts of municipality. Interregional connections between the area and other neighborhood regions and countries is provided through the distribution network of 400, 220 KV.
- The main precondition for attracting foreign investments is preparation of the regulatory, spatial and urban plans of the Srebrenica and wider area.
